Micro cracks (max 0.2 mm) have a radial threadlike appearance and only affect the surface layer of the plaster. They are caused by hygrometric shrinkage of the plaster and should not be underestimated because they can cause rapid decay of the plaster, and also provide openings for infiltrations of water. Fissuring (0.2 to 1 mm) affects the entire thickness of the plaster and is deeper. Lastly, cracks (1 to 2 mm), which run parallel and are much deeper, are caused mainly by thermal movements of the construction materials.
